Solitamente sono allergica alle canzoni di Natale, ma quest’anno i miei timpani hanno deciso di fare un’eccezione. Sembrerà assurdo, visto che la Merry Christmas dei tempi moderni non ha niente da invidiare tutte quelle compilation colme di campane, campanelle, tamburelli e triangoli. Una canzone tradizionalissima, che profuma di Natale e Michael Bublè, ma che in qualche modo, a me inspiegabile, la rende quasi attraente. Sarà per Ed Sheeran vestito da Babbo Natale, sarà per Elton John che canta da una slitta, ma questi tre minuti di videoclip ti fanno inevitabilmente sorridere. E’ l’incontro di due generazioni, la stretta di mano tra due grandi artisti, un brano nato dalle macerie di questi ultimi due anni, capace di instillare una nuova speranza anche nei cuori dei Grinch. Ebbene, eccomi qui, a canticchiare allegramente It’s Christmas tiiiime, mentre l’albero appena addobbato sbrilluccica in salotto. Il bello delle canzoni di Natale. Ti fanno tornare bambino. E in una delle frasi più belle testo ho ritrovato tutto il significato di queste giornate di festa: “I know there’s been pain this year, but it’s time to let it go“. Perché la vita è una sola, e bisogna imparare a cogliere ogni momento.

Nessuno ne parla, ma il ricavato del brano è destinato a due fondazioni, la Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation, che aiuta i ragazzi minorenni di Suffolk con donazioni per l’istruzione e lo studio della musica, ma soprattutto la Elton John Aids Foundation, impegnata nella lotta contro l’AIDS, lo stigma e la discriminazione.
