Non è propriamente una canzone natalizia, e John Legend non è propriamente l’artista che tutti conoscono appieno. Il genere tendente al soul pervade anche questo brano, il cui titolo letteralmente recita “Portami amore”. Il cantante si rivolge implorante a Babbo Natale, come un bambino che vorrebbe disperatamente una sola cosa, ed è disposto a rinunciare a tutto il resto per averla. “Non ho bisogno della mia calza piena di giocattoli, e non ho bisogno di regali che mi portino gioia […] No, non voglio molto, il tuo amore è tutto ciò di cui ho bisogno”. La canzone è una dedica all’amore, che può riempire tutte le mancanze, sostituirsi ai beni materiali e farsi addirittura preferire. L’amore è ciò che ci guida, ciò che ci fa stare bene, ciò che ci fa sentire in pace con il mondo, magari senza quel nostro giocattolo o quel pacchetto da scartare, ma felici. John Legend ha cantato questo, proprio nel 2018 che si è appena concluso, ed il brano è stato inserito in un album, “A legendary Christmas”, un ibrido di inediti e cover natalizie già affermate.
